 In Service to One Another is a call from the Lord.  Ours is a large parish.  The talents and time of many are needed.  If each of us shares a part of the responsibility of service, much can be accomplished.  Below is an outline of the many opportunities in our parish to share your time and talents.  You can find out more about each of these areas of our parish life by clicking on the appropriate titles.  Several committees have also posted information about upcoming events and activities.

Parish Life Commission This Commission encourages and supports the development of parish life through welcoming, social activities and outreach.

Human Concerns Commission The Human Concerns Commission is to encourage and support the development of parish life through the ministries of service which provide spiritual and material outreach to those in need.
       
MOMs (formerly Elizabeth Ministry)

Bereavement  Committee: This committee provides  a parish connection with bereaved families by providing prayer, support, comfort and  remembrances.

 Ministers of Care: Our ministers provide support and concern for the sick, the elderly and the homebound of the parish. Ministers visit and share with them the Word of God in Scripture, pray and bring Holy Eucharist. If you or anyone you know is unable to attend Sunday Mass, give us at call. We are happy to assist.

Education and Formation The mission of the Education/ Formation Commission is to provide religious formation for people of all ages throughout the parish.  We exist to facilitate collaboration and teamwork between the Religious Education Board, Youth Board, Cardinal Bernardin School and the Adult Faith Formation Board.

  •   RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) This is the process whereby adults are fully initiated into the Catholic Church.  Who can participate?  Adults not baptized who wish to explore the Catholic faith, adults baptized in another Christian faith, baptized Catholics who have not yet received the sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation.  For information , call Sister Bernard, O.P. 460-0042

Adult Faith Formation Opportunities

Scripture Study Fall 2008- Letter to the Ephesians

Presenter: Father David Monaco
Topic: Saints and Members of the Household of God

Time: 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.
Where: St. Francis room
Cost: No fee.
No registration required. Please bring your Bible and a friend!
Father Monaco is a member of the Passionist Community. He has a M.Div., Catholic Theological Union, S.S.L., Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome, and is a Ph.D. candidate, University of Illinois.

Scripture Study Spring 2009- 1 Corinthians

Presenter: Tom Conlan
Topic: St. Paul’s 1st Letter to the Corinthians
Date: Wednesdays, Jan. 14 to Feb. 18, 2009
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Where: St. Francis room
Cost: no fee.
No registration required. Please bring your Bible and a friend.
Tom Conlan is currently pursuing a Master’s degree at Catholic Theological Union and is currently on an archeological study in the Mediterranean.

Small Faith Groups

 Participants gather in small groups of no more than twelve people at the church or in homes. The group is led in prayer and discussion by a trained parishioner.

Date: Groups start 6 week fall sessions in late Sept. and again in Feb.
Time: There are morning and evening groups. Sessions last 1 ˝ hours
Cost: Each individual (couple) purchases the U.S. Catholic Catechism for Adults, ~$20 through St. Francis

Women’s Morning of Reflection - Women Gather and Grow

Speaker: Sister Pat Walsh OP
Topic: Growing in Holiness as a Community of St. Francis

Date: Saturday, Sept. 20, 08
Time: 9:00 a.m. – noon
Where: Great Room Refreshments will be served
Cost: No fee. Please bring a friend!
Registration: call the parish office. However, last minute guests are welcome!

Sister Pat Walsh is a member of the Adrian Dominican Congregation. She has been a DRE and has been involved with the RCIA programs in several parishes. Sister was Education Coordinator at the Mercy Home for Girls and Pastoral Associate at St. Isidore in Blue Island.

Liturgical Commission The Liturgical Commission is a commission of the Parish Pastoral Council.  The purpose of the Liturgical Commission is to set goals, develop standards and evaluate the practice for liturgical life of the parish.  The Commission is responsible for providing training and formation for all involved in liturgical life.  In addition, it serves as a resource to make information available about opportunities of growth, including Archdiocesan and Deanery workshops and programs.

Parish Library

Our Parish Library is located in the Great Room.  This is a self-serve library.  Directions on how to use the library are posted on each side of the window for your convenience. The books are in alphabetical order by author and the audiotapes or videotapes are in alphabetical order by title.  If you have any questions call Adrianne at 708-403-4169.
